George Rausch – Week 8

Prilosec Free At Last!

“Free at last, free at last!” A phrase quoted by Martin Luther King Jr. (which I am co-opting to describe my change in health) is the only the only way in which I can describe how good it feels to be rid of Prilosec [Omeprazole] for my acid reflux. This was my major goal when I started the program and it has been achieved. “Free at last, free at last!” It is as if a weight has been lifted from my shoulders; a dark cloud has moved away from my head; a debt owed, has now been paid.I have spent the last 4 years taking a little pink tablet every morning religiously to stop acid reflux from ruining my day. Why was this happening? Looking back on how I was living before the SkyFit Challenge, it was mainly my diet that caused my acid reflux. I had tried many things, but nothing had worked until I started this program. The differences that I feel physically within myself and my overall happiness are almost beyond words. Here is a basic recap of some of the major changes that happened only days after stopping taking the pill:
  1. I have been able to run longer, harder and faster without cramping or feeling tired. In fact, I get bursts of energy at the end when I need to push through the fatigue to beat my previous lap time.
  2. I no longer feel tired all the time. Yes, I had said that by starting to eat healthier and workout I was feeling more alert, but really, I’ve never felt this awake before in recent memory.
  3. Mentally, I feel like I’m eating smaller amounts of food, but I’m not feeling as hungry anymore. It’s like the food that I eat is actually being absorbed into my system and not just passed through.
  4. I am sleeping more soundly through the night.
  5. My muscles do not ache continually after working out.
  6. I am no longer short of breath and dizzy while working out. I have a new clarity and focus while pushing through workouts.

With all this happy talk it would seem that life is better and “working out and eating healthy has saved my life”! Well, there are still some residual issues that I’m powering through by staying hydrated (I now drink more water than ever before), taking an organic probiotic in the morning and at night, and most importantly, I take a digestive enzyme with every meal that I eat to help me process the food. Sometimes I drink a glass of diluted apple cider vinegar to make sure that my acid stays down when I start to feel it flare up. Right now we’re in a stage of repair and recovery from years of stomach agitation due to improper diet. But, for all intensive purposes, I’m free at last from Prilosec.
